Nominations are a proof of ownership and are required in order to complete entries for the California Youth Ag Expo. Nominations consist of mailing in each animal’s DNA and completing the online nomination process.

Nominations can be purchased beginning May 1, 2024.

NOMINATIONS are separate from ENTRIES

Animals that must nominate:

– All barrows and gilts

– All wether and doe goats

– All wether and ewe lambs

– Steers

*Heifers do not have to nominate, only complete entries.

Please carefully read the instructions below!

Step 1- Ordering DNA/Nomination Kit 

  • Go to http://calyouthexpo.com
  • Click on the livestock tab, then select nominations and click the link to order nominations
  • The needed materials to return DNA hair samples and the specific ear tags assigned will be mailed to you after payment is received
  • Online nomination orders are due no later than May 16, 2024
  • Complete the DNA hair pulling process once you receive your kit
  • Complete the online nomination form (step 2 below)
    • Mail complete nomination kit back to the CYAE office by May 24, 2024 postmark date
    • Complete nomination kit to be mailed back includes: Hair sample inside plastic bag and envelope
    • Envelope information completed
    • Mail nomination envelope inside a separate mailing envelope to allow for address, return address, and postage
    • WE HIGHLY ENCOURAGE TRACKING NUMBERS

Step 2- Online Nominations (Step-By-Step Online Instructions Below)

  • Go to http://calyouthexpo.com
  • Click on the livestock tab, then select nominations, and scroll to the bottom to select online nominations link
  • Complete second online nominations process, inputting all the exhibitor and animal information Important to note the validation number is the CYAE tag number that was mailed to you
  • Every animal nominated, must be nominated in an exhibitor’s name
  • For family nominations, you will enter the animal information under each siblings name
  • Submit cart and print receipt for records
  • IMPORTANT: Your cart will show a $0 balance, you have already paid the fee in the first online nominations ordering step
  • This must be completed by the nomination deadline of May 24, 2024

Step 3- Online Entries 

  • Go to http://calyouthexpo.com
  • Click on the livestock tab, then select entries, and click on the online entries link to be directed to the entries portal
    • Complete online entries process, inputting all exhibitor and animal information. Important to note that the validation number is the CYAE tag number that was mailed to you.
    • Every animal nominated, will populate under the division that you are entering This excludes breeding heifers, as they do not nominate
    • Submit cart and print receipt for records
    • For entries, you will pay in the last step with a credit card.

Online Nomination Instructions

Step 1 – Logging In

  • Click “Sign In” on the top right-hand side of your screen.
  • Choose “Exhibitor.”
  • Enter exhibitors First Name and Last Name
  • Click “Continue” 

Step 2 – Account Information

  • Begin adding exhibitors information.
  • Password: The passwords are set by you, the exhibitor. It is very important that you remember and document this information exactly as you put it, as you will need to reference the Exhibitor First and Last Name and Password for Entries.
  • Please thoroughly fill out all information needed.
  • Click “Continue” 
  • Verify all information is correct.
  • Click “Continue” 

Step 3 – Nominations

  • Choose a department.
  • Choose a division. You must only enter an animal exactly how it is listed on the nomination envelope that you mail in. 
  • Validation number – this is the animals required tag # that you provide.
  • Click “Continue.” Exhibitors showing more than one animal: Continue by choosing a department and repeating the process. Exhibitors showing only one animal: Click “Continue.”
  • Once you have entered all animals for a particular exhibitor, click “Continue” until you reach the Review process.

Step 4 – Check Out

  • If you are finished with the exhibitor, click “Check out” and proceed with the on-screen instructions.
  • If you need to add more entries, click the appropriate tab.
  • You may also save your cart for later. CYAE recommends using this feature as often as possible. This allows you to leave the entry process and return at your own pace without losing any data.

Step 5 –  Wait for Entries Database to Open to complete Entries

  • If you have collected DNA on all animals, completed the online Nomination process and mailed in envelopes, you are finished with nominations!!
  • You MUST complete the entry process to be eligible to show.

Nominations will open May 1, 2024.
